PacketAlarm » Support » System Requirements

= =   S y s t e m   R e q u i r e m e n t s   = =

Hardware Requirements:
CPU: Single or dual CPU systems with Intel Pentium or 100% compatible processor (we recommend: PIII, 1GHz or better)
RAM: 128Mbyte (we recommend: 256MByte or more)
Hard disk: 20GByte IDE or SCSI, for list of controllers supported, see below.
For Manager systems with high data volumes, you must use a hard disk of sufficient size. If you wish to use a RAID controller, we recommend controllers by ICP-Vortex as the ICPCON utility for repairing a faulty RAID is directly integrated in the PacketAlarm console.
You can also use the other RAID controllers listed; however, it may not always be possible to the RAID without rebooting the system. VarySys Technologies makes no guarantee regarding the correct operation of tehse controllers.
A number of hard disks which are not clearly managed by a RAID controller for PacketAlarm, are not supported. CDROM: IDE or SCSI CDROM drive; for list of controllers supported, see below.
CDROM: DE or SCSI CDROM drive; for list of controllers supported, see below.
Only the following arrangement of hard disks and CD-ROM combinations is supported:

Hard disk bus CD-ROM bus
IDE IDE
SCSI IDE
SCSI SCSI
The following combination is not supported:
IDE SCSI
Network card: Only PCI-based network cards are supported; for list of cards supported, see below. For a sensor system whose scan interface is intended to operate in stealth mode, at least two network cards are required, or one network card with several interfaces.
For optimal performance, network cards with a large reception buffer and interrupt reduction are required.
Hardware recommendations for the scan interface:
100 Mbps: Intel PRO/100S (Dual Port) server adapter
1000 Mbps: Intel PRO/1000 series server adapters
1000 Mbps: SysKonnect SK98xx series adapters
List of components supported:
The drivers listed below are contained in the PacketAlarm kernel. However, automatic hardware recognition means that recognition problems may occur with certain hardware components. In such cases, please replace the component with another one mentioned in this list.
